Congratulations to Dr. Michael Wohl, Professor in Carleton University’s Department of Psychology, on being elected as a 2026 Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences (CAHS). This prestigious recognition is among the highest honours in Canada’s health sciences community and acknowledges individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and impact in advancing health sciences. Dr. Wohl is the first Carleton researcher to receive this distinction.

Dr. Wohl’s research has significantly influenced the fields of health psychology, public health policy and addiction harm prevention. As Director of The Betterment Labs, his work explores conflict resolution, social identity, behavioural change and gambling harm prevention. He is widely recognized for pioneering the Positive Play framework, an approach that has transformed responsible gambling research, policy and practice and is now used in more than 70 jurisdictions worldwide.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Wohl has authored hundreds of scholarly publications, technical reports and book chapters, with research appearing in leading journals such as Nature, Nature Human Behaviour, The Lancet Regional Health – Americas and Addiction. His work was also recognized in 2025 when he was named among the world’s most-cited scholars.
