It’s completely okay not to have your future fully figured out yet. A psychology degree provides a strong foundation in understanding people, communication, mental health, and human behaviour skills that are valuable across many different careers and post-graduate programs. Stay open-minded and give yourself permission to explore what truly interests and motivates you, what brings you passion or feels fulfilling.

Brief description of what I do!

I am a registered Occupational Therapist in good standing in the Province of Ontario. I have several years of experience in rehabilitation services, supporting clients in returning to work, restoring function, and re-engaging in the activities that are most meaningful to them. In addition to my role as an Occupational Therapist, I serve as the Manager of Clinical Services, where I support both clinical excellence and team development.

My treatment approach is client-centered and evidence-based, with areas of focus including mental health treatment, concussion care, behavioural activation, ergonomics, cognitive assessment and rehabilitation, return-to-work planning, burnout support, sleep hygiene, and pain management strategies. I work with individuals recovering from workplace injuries and motor vehicle accidents, as well as those managing long-term disability claims, and I also offer private treatment services.

What inspired your career path after graduation?

After graduating with my degree in psychology, I knew I wanted to continue supporting individuals experiencing mental health concerns. At the same time, I had developed a strong interest in the brain, cognitive rehabilitation, and whole-body wellness. These interests inspired me to pursue a master’s degree in Occupational Therapy and build a career where I could support both mental and physical well-being in a meaningful, holistic way.

How did your experience in the psychology program shape your journey?

My experiences in the psychology program, particularly through cognitive science courses, deepened my understanding of people and strengthened my passion for supporting others. I became especially interested in how the brain shapes our experiences, mental health, and overall wellness. These experiences ultimately guided me toward pursuing a career in Occupational Therapy, where I could apply this knowledge in a meaningful and holistic way.

What skills or experiences were most valuable after graduation?

The knowledge and skills I gained in understanding how the brain functions, psychological illnesses, and various treatment approaches have been incredibly valuable after graduation. The strong foundation my psychology degree provided continues to influence my practice as an Occupational Therapist today, both in working directly with individuals and in managing and supporting teams.

Do you have a favourite memory from your program at Carleton?

Dr. Cheryl Harasymchuk was my thesis advisor, and a great resource in learning more about the profession and was such a supportive resource in completing my degree and applying to my Masters program.

What has been a highlight or proud moment in your career so far?
