“You don’t need to have it all figured out! If you don’t know what you want to do or where you want to work, it’s completely okay! Everyone’s path is different and rarely do people have it all figured it out by graduation. Take things one step at a time and you will land exactly where you are suppose to be.”

Brief description of what I do!

I currently provide administration and operation support to the Student Experience Office and Campus Card Office. I oversee our financial reconciliations, space bookings for student groups and student group funding opportunities. While my role is more administrative in nature, I use the skills I learned in my psychology degree everyday when interacting with students and staff. In the past, I have also overseen community engaged learning initiatives, orientation programs, peer mentorship programs and co-op program administration.

What inspired your career path after graduation?

I got involved with the Student Experience Office during my time as a student and that opened my eyes to the word of higher education. I knew during my degree I wanted to go into some sort of education career and working with people but never considered higher education as an option. Once I learned more about it, I knew this was the career I wanted to pursue!

How did your experience in the psychology program shape your journey?

The psychology program shaped my journey by deepening my understanding of human behavior and strengthening my critical-thinking and communication skills. It also increased my empathy and reinforced my interest in working with and helping others.

What skills or experiences were most valuable after graduation?

Working in different roles allowed me to diversify my experiences and build on the core skills learned in my degree and how to apply them in the working world. Building a network and connecting with people helped me get to where I am today.

Are there specific Psychology courses, professors, or experiences that stood out during your time at Carleton?

I really enjoyed sports psychology and neuro psychology courses!

What has been a highlight or proud moment in your career so far?

Seeing the journey of the students I work with from their first year to graduation and seeing how far they have come!
