Take your time, life is not a race. I travelled throughout my entire degree and spent 2 years travelling post graduation just to make sure I was certain. I needed that time to develop myself personally before I could take on a new and exciting challenge. So, don’t forget to live.

Brief description of what I do!

I am currently a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) at Unleash Synergy, where I provide therapy services to individuals and couples who are struggling with the intersection of intimacy, gender identity, and emotional regulation. I use evidence based modalities with a holistic approach to foster an environment that allows clients to find their autonomy and pursue their happiness.

What inspired your career path after graduation?

Traveling. While exploring the world and having so many amazing experiences I started to recognize large differences in how North America ‘takes care’ of their citizens. Coming to realize that there are much healthier populations and countries around the world made me take a deep dive into what was at the root of these differences. Mental health. In various capacities these people I connected with along my journeys taught me the importance of people being happy and having autonomy. This thought process solidified my decision to pursue psychotherapy after graduation in an effort to help others find their happiness and autonomy so they can live more fulfilled lives for themselves and others.

How did your experience in the psychology program shape your journey?

The psychology program at Carleton University really highlighted the fundamentals of how psychology came to be. While it did not focus on varying breadths within the field, it did showcase some important positions that come out of it. To me, this was the first step in my own journey to pursuing my dreams.

What skills or experiences were most valuable after graduation?

The most valuable skills I brought with me from my undergrad were the understanding that in the world pf psychology, no one is ever ‘the same’. Showing up with compassion for others and being willing to see others’ perspectives is crucial for success within this field of study.

What has been a highlight or proud moment in your career so far?

Witnessing the relief that washes over someone who has taken that first step to get help.
