“Explore as much as possible! Your path doesn’t have to be straight forward. It’s a lot more fun to take some detours 🙂“
Brief description of what I do!
I am a Ph.D. candidate in Clinical Psychology at the University of British Columbia. My research is focused on the ways we use social media and how this affects us.
What inspired your career path after graduation?
While completing my Master’s degree in Experimental Psychology, I realized I wanted to work directly with the people my research was intended to help. This led me to pursue a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of British Columbia.
How did your experience in the psychology program shape your journey?
I got really solid research foundations at Carleton! During my Master’s at Carleton, I was lucky to be mentored by Dr. Adelle Forth, who encouraged me to research topics that I was genuinely passionate about. I still do research on the same topic!
What skills or experiences were most valuable after graduation?
Before I started my master’s at Carleton, I wasn’t sure that grad school was for me. Having a mentor who was so supportive and warm gave me a lot of confidence in myself that this is something I could do and enjoy. I will forever be grateful for the experiences I had at Carleton for helping me find my passion!
Are there specific Psychology courses, professors, or experiences that stood out during your time at Carleton?
Dr. Adelle Forth, Dr. John Zelenski and his Happiness Course, and Dr. Kim Hellemans and her Intro to Neuroscience courses are all stand outs for me!
What has been a highlight or proud moment in your career so far?
I had the surreal experience of being interviewed by the New York Times about my dissertation research on the ways that information about ADHD is presented on TikTok!
