“My advice for future students is to seek out hands-on experience, even if you are unsure whether a particular area is the right fit for you. Taking that step can provide valuable clarity and help you better understand your interests. For me, applying to work in a clinical environment was a pivotal decision—without it, I may not have discovered the path I am on now. Trying new opportunities, even when there is uncertainty, can be an important part of narrowing down your direction and building confidence in your career choices.“
Brief description of what I do!
I am the Director of Neurofeedback and a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) at MindSpa Mental Health Centre. In my neurofeedback practice, I work with clients across the lifespan, while my psychotherapy work focuses primarily on adults. I take a trauma-informed, client-centered approach, with an emphasis on creating a safe, supportive, and collaborative therapeutic environment.
My work often incorporates a bottom-up perspective, integrating modalities such as Polyvagal Theory, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), and Solution-Focused approaches. I aim to support clients in building insight, strengthening self-regulation, and fostering meaningful, lasting change.

Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology and Board Certification in Neurofeedback (BCN)
What inspired your career path after graduation?
I began working as a Neurofeedback Technician during my undergraduate degree and found a passion for helping people by looking at the brain. As I worked in a clinical environment it developed my desire to grow within this field and pursue a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology.
How did your experience in the psychology program shape your journey?
My experience in the psychology program sparked a strong curiosity about human behaviour, thoughts, and emotional processes. It encouraged me to think more deeply about how people make meaning of their experiences and ultimately guided me toward pursuing a career in the helping professions. The program provided a foundation that continues to inform my interest in understanding and supporting others.
What skills or experiences were most valuable after graduation?
The most valuable skill I developed after graduation has been critical thinking, particularly the ability to thoughtfully understand and respond to complex human experiences. I rely on critical thinking to adapt interventions in a way that aligns with each client’s unique needs while maintaining a trauma-informed, client-centered approach.
Do you have a favourite memory from your program at Carleton?
My third year stats Professor Deanna Whelan had such a positive impact on my experience. Statistics was not my strong suit but her support in that class allowed me to understand more clearly and be successful.
What has been a highlight or proud moment in your career so far?
Whenever I see a client express improvement and the look on their face or how it shows up in their body language is an incredible moment for me. It reinforces my decision to take this path.
