Parental Leave Request

Important

The Student Parental Leave Policy can be found at the University Secretariat website. It is advised that students who wish to request this leave familiarize themselves with the policy prior to requesting the leave.

Congratulations!

You have come across this page because you are most likely looking to take some time away from your studies to fulfill parental responsibilities, including pregnancy, childbirth, adoption or the welcoming of a new child.

It is important to note that you may break from your studies for a term or more at any time, and you can break for up to 9 terms (3 years) with no consequences to your student record and account. At the 9-term mark, you will be made inactive, and you would need to reapply for Admission. If you are in a specialized program, you may wish to consult your Academic Advisor before taking time off, especially if you are in a cohort program such as Nursing or Engineering; however, most students can simply take the time they need away.

We recognize that you may require (for legal, employment or other reasons) official approval and recognition of your request for parental leave, or choose to apply for parental leave in order to keep certain on-campus services throughout your leave. If you require official parental leave to be granted, you may make a request for leave through the Registrar’s Office by completing the document below.

During the academic term(s) of the approved parental leave, you may choose to retain access and pay for any of the following University services without enrolling in courses:

If you do not require official approval for legal or employment purposes and do not require the services above throughout your time away, you do not need to submit a Parental Leave Request form.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact the Registrar’s Office.
