Special Students
-
If you have previously studied at Carleton and already have a student number, the administrative fee is waived for you, but you still have to submit an online application to become an active student.
-
If you can’t remember your student number, you can contact the Registrar’s Office during regular office hours. A staff member will be happy to retrieve your student number for you.
-
Special students may normally enrol in up to 2.0 credits per academic session (e.g. Fall and Winter together) and no more than 1.0 credit per term (e.g. two half-credit courses). Special students may enrol in up to 1.0 credit during the Summer session.
-
Special students who have completed one or more full credits with an overall CGPA of 7.0 in all credits taken at Carleton (including failures) may register in up to 1.5 credits in each term of the Fall/Winter session.
Students coming to Carleton on a Letter of Permission and students who have completed a degree at another institution are eligible to register in a maximum of 2.5 credits per term.
-
Course withdrawal must be done via Carleton Central within the published deadlines. Non-attendance or failure to pay fees does not constitute as a withdrawal. Failure to pay your tuition fees by the published fee payment deadlines may result in deregistration from all courses.
-
Credit limit increases are not automatically renewed and must be requested each term.
Auditing Students
-
An auditing student is a student who attends a course for interest and not credit. With the permission of the instructor, students may audit courses which are not designated as having limited enrolment. Auditors receive no grade and no credit for courses audited. Formal registration is required.
-
Audited courses are included in calculating your normally approved course load (credit limit).
Letter of Permission Students
-
Students from other universities attending Carleton on a Letter of Permission must be admitted as special students before registering. Students should include a copy of their letter of permission with the application. Registration for letter of permission students begins March 30 via Carleton Central.
-
Students who have a letter of permission from another university must be admitted as Special Students before registering. Once admitted, students on letter of permission may register via Carleton Central.
International Students
-
Students whose native language is not English will be required to meet the University English as a Second Language Requirements (ESLR). The English as a Second Language requirement is managed through the School of Linguistics and Language Studies (SLaLS). Visit the SLaLS website for more information about studying with an ESLR.
