How has learning a language influenced your life?

For me the experience of learning a second language provided immense personal growth that helped shape my professional interests. I no longer use my language training on a day-to-day basis but the experience early in my career played a huge part in directing me towards my current profession. I went into the BIB program without knowing what I wanted. Learning Spanish and going on exchange abroad was an opportunity to travel, challenge myself academically and personally, and learn to appreciate new cultures, challenges and experiences. During my exchange I travelled extensively all over South America. I fell in love with nature and developed a passion for protecting the environment. This drove me towards my current profession of developing renewable energy all over North America. I came out of the program with a very clear purpose and have been able to turn this into a job that I love.
