Marc-Andre Gagnon’s op-ed in La Presse ( Penser l’assurance médicaments pour l’intérêt de la population , Dec 6, 2023) debunks some misconceptions about drug coverage and explains that Pharmacare should be based on the interests of the population, not on the interest of private insurance companies.
“In a nutshell, [with the proposal of La Presse of implementing the Quebec model across Canada and supplement it with catastrophic coverage,] what is being proposed is to pay more for an inefficient system that would make private insurance mandatory, that would reduce our capacity to negotiate lower prices, while the public purse would cover the risks in private drug plans.”
