Prof. Alexandra Mallet from the School of Public Policy & Administration, in collaboration with Prosanto Pal of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) in New Delhi, is addressing the challenge of decarbonizing India’s industrial sector, focusing on iron and steel production. Supported by the Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation, their research aims to advance net zero goals. Considering the socio-economic impacts of decarbonization, particularly in the Steel Belt, their team engaged with key informants, including workers, industry executives, government representatives, and non-profits, to discuss the implications of energy transition in three Indian communities. Initially funded by the International Research Seed Grant, this project has since expanded to include a Carleton student from India and joint fieldwork, solidifying the collaboration between Indian and Canadian partners.
