SPPA in the News
We are proud to share that SPPA Professor Anna Kopec, MPPA graduate Braydon Wraxall, and former SPPA Postdoctoral Fellow Kristen Pue have published an op-ed in Policy Options:
“Canada needs a climate-responsive social safety net.”
As climate disasters such as wildfires and floods grow more frequent and severe, their article highlights how current disaster assistance frameworks often fail marginalized populations, deepening inequities and undermining resilience. They argue for a climate-responsive social protection system—including measures like anticipatory cash transfers, resettlement programs, and modular housing—to ensure no one is left behind during crises.
