SPPA Alumnus Recognized for Public Administration

Paul LaFleche (MA ’94, Public Administration) has been recognized with one of Nova Scotia’s most respected honours in public service. LaFleche has been named the 2025 recipient of the Lieutenant-Governor’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration. 

The award is presented to an individual who demonstrates outstanding achievement, commitment, and leadership within the field of public administration.  

“This recognition carries special meaning,” said LaFleche. “It is humbling to be included among individuals I greatly respect, many of whom played important mentoring roles in my career.” 

LaFleche will be formally presented with the award this spring during a ceremony at Government House in Halifax. 

LaFleche is currently an executive deputy minister with the Government of Nova Scotia as well as deputy minister for Municipal Affairs and Public Works. His career path spans academic leadership, economic development, and senior roles within government. 

Before entering public service, LaFleche worked as an exploration geoscientist and researcher. He led both the Centre of Geographic Sciences (COGS) in Lawrencetown and the Annapolis Valley Campus of the Nova Scotia Community College in Middleton. 

LaFleche joined the provincial public service in 2003 and has since held senior positions across multiple departments. According to the announcement of the award, he has distinguished himself through his ability to unite diverse interests, build effective partnerships, navigate complex responsibilities, and consistently deliver results.
