John Coleman is an Adjunct Professor at Carleton University’s School of Public Policy and Administration. In 2011 he retired from the National Research Council of Canada, where he held senior positions including Vice-President of Engineering, and Director General of Surface Transportation Technology.

He is a member of the National Board of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in North America, as well as corporate Treasurer and chair of its Education Committee, and a member of Transport Canada’s Railway Research Advisory Board. At Carleton he teaches a masters-level course on Canadian Transportation Policy, now an annual offering, and has contributed research reports to the Canada Transportation Act Review Panel in 2015 and the Railway Safety Act Review Panel in 2017. In 2019, along with distinguished research professor emeritus Bruce Doern and Barry Prentice of the University of Manitoba, he co-authored a book on transportation policy in Canada.

Mr. Coleman received a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Carleton University and an MBA from the University of Western Ontario. In 2002 he received the Golden Jubilee Medal of HM Queen Elizabeth II.
