Towards Carleton@100
A vision for our second century
In 2042, Carleton University will mark its 100th anniversary. As we approach this milestone, we have a defining opportunity to shape a future that reflects our values and responsibility to the communities we serve.
Towards Carleton@100: From Promise to Inclusive Impact and Prominence marks the beginning of a long-term strategic visioning process that will shape our direction and define priorities as we approach our centennial. Together, we will define how Carleton builds on its strengths, responds boldly to a changing world and expands its impact at local, national and global levels in pursuit of enduring global prominence.
Why a 15-Year Vision?
Traditional five-year plans tend to focus on reactive responses to near-term exigencies. Looking ahead to 2042 allows us to move beyond immediate pressures, sustain our focus on our fundamental purpose, and define a long-term direction that will deepen Carleton’s role in society and elevate its global prominence.
This extended horizon enables us to respond to evolving societal, technological and financial change and strengthen institutional resilience while staying true to our core values and setting Carleton apart by way of meaningful differentiation and distinction. By simultaneously addressing the present and looking ahead, we can anticipate challenges and plan strategically. This allows us to thoughtfully focus our efforts on advancing teaching and research; supporting student, faculty, and staff success and well-being; and building stronger, inclusive, and enduring partnerships with and across communities to promote mutual flourishing and inclusive impact.
The long-term vision will serve as the framework for short-to-medium term strategic and implementation plans that have clearly defined priorities and measurable indicators of progress and are responsive and adaptable to changing dynamics.
A Collective Effort
This work requires a collaborative and spirited campus community. Students, faculty, staff, alumni, partners and supporters will all play a role in shaping the vision and the strategies that follow.
No matter your role at Carleton, your voice matters. Your experiences, expertise, values and aspirations will help define the future we build together — a university positioned for enduring global prominence that comes from making an inclusive impact.
