Evelyn B. Namakula M.
Associate Professor (School of Interdisciplinary Studies)
Evelyn Namakula Mayanja is an Associate Professor, Carleton University Research Ethics Board (CURB) member and undergraduate advisor for the Human Rights and Social Justice program in Carleton’s School of Interdisciplinary Studies. Namakula is an interdisciplinary scholar whose research focuses on critical analysis, decolonization and African Indigenous philosophy at the intersection of global political economy, natural resources, race, politics and governance. Her work examines the experiences and struggles of communities marginalized by colonial and neocolonial systems of oppression and exploitation as well as by neoliberal authoritarianism and political repression.
Namakula’s current research explores mineral resource-based wars and armed conflict, peacekeeping, peacebuilding and the narratives surrounding renewable and green energy in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). She has a strong interest in African peace and security, including peacebuilding, peacekeeping, post-conflict reconstruction and the role of women in peace and security initiatives. Her broader research interests encompass war and armed conflict, corporations in the natural resource sector, global politics and governance, and the politics and economics of race, work and labour.
As a member of the Towards Carleton@100 strategic visioning process, Namakula brings an international outlook to research and expertise in decolonization, peace and security and global political economy to discussions on advancing research impact and addressing complex global challenges.
