The winter break is a great time to rest, rejuvenate and regroup for the remainder of the term. With midterms coming up, it’s important to prioritize both your coursework and your wellness. Carleton has many resources to help you stay on track, from academic support and employability to wellness.
During the winter break, the university is closed on Monday, February 19, 2024, for the Family Day holiday. While classes are paused from Tuesday, February 20 to Friday, February 23, 2024, campus remains open.
Academic support
The Centre for Student Academic Support (CSAS) continues to offer one-on-one Learning and Writing Support Sessions, as well as online Learning and Writing Support Workshops on Brightspace throughout the winter break.
During Learning and Writing Support Sessions, students can meet with someone one-on-one to work on a range of learning and writing strategies such as time management, managing procrastination and building academic writing skills. Book a Learning or Writing Support Session via MySuccess (access by logging into Carleton360).
Preparing for Employment
Getting a head-start on job searches and networking can benefit you greatly in the long run. Carleton’s Co-op and Career Services departments are here to support you every step of the way.
Co-op students can land jobs throughout the term via the job board on mySuccess (access by logging into Carleton360) as well as through a self-directed job search. The winter break is a great time to continue applying for summer co-op jobs.
Get prepared for the in-person Spring Career Fair on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, as well as various recruitment and info sessions Career Services will be hosting throughout the term, by reviewing your resume and cover letter with an expert. You can learn more about how AI is affecting applicant resumes at the Resume Workshop – Session 4: Leveraging AI Tools for Job Applications coming up on Thursday, February 29, 2024 (see details and register on mySuccess).
Looking After Your Wellness
The break is a great time to check in on your mental health and there are many resources to support you. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed or seeking a little extra support, Carleton students have access to a wide variety of services.
If you’re not sure where to start, students can access the Wellness Services Navigator, a tool which will anonymously connect you with a curated list of mental health and wellness resources. After answering a series of questions about your circumstances and concerns, the navigator will suggest resources on campus and in the community tailored to you.
Make sure you’re also taking care of your body – eating healthy, taking the time to exercise and drinking enough water. Carleton Athletics offers fitness classes, personal training and fitness centre workouts to support your physical wellness.
Carleton’s Health Promotion Team has compiled a virtual care package to help support mental health and wellbeing. You can anonymously send a care package to yourself, a friend or classmate by email.
Have a wonderful break, Ravens!
