Important Information: To avoid Academic Integrity violations, questions about exams, including take-home exams, should be directed to your instructor or teaching assistant. If you are working on a group assignment, we encourage you to book individual appointments with Writing Services as needed.
Writing Consultation Sessions – Summer 2023
Monday – Friday: 9am – 4pm
Writing Consultation Sessions are free of charge for Carleton students. Students can book one 50-minute session per day to discuss a Carleton course assignment. Sessions are led by one of our experienced writing consultants who can help you find ways to solve the writing challenges you’re experiencing. We strive to create a welcoming and inclusive environment that can help you build the skills and strategies you need to make sure you can confidently tackle future writing challenges.
Check the Writing Consultation Sessions webpage for up-to-date drop-in days and hours available.
Go to the Centre for Student Academic Support (CSAS) reception desk located on the 4th floor of the MacOdrum Library during specified drop-in days and hours.
A CSAS staff member will sign you in with your student ID and let you know where to wait for your session.
Make sure that you have any necessary documents ready to be shared (ex. the assignment instructions, rubric, course outline), as well as any notes, outlines, or drafts you have completed so far that can be shared with the writing consultant.
Login to Carleton 360 and click on ‘MySuccess’ followed by ‘Continue’.
Click on the three bars on the top left corner of MySuccess to open a navigation bar. Then select the downward arrow beside the ‘Centre for Student Academic Support’.
In the left-hand navigation bar, click the downward arrow beside ‘Writing Services’, followed by ‘Appointments’.
Please note, if you click on the Writing Services circle icon, you will be brought back to the CSAS website. Instead, use the side navigation bar as outlined above.
Select ‘Book by Appointment Type’ and choose a date and time slot that works best for you.
After you have booked a session, you will receive a confirmation email with details regarding the day, time, and location of the appointment.
Before you attend your session, please ensure that you have any necessary documents ready to be shared (ex. the assignment instructions, rubric, course outline), as well as any notes, outlines, or drafts you have completed so far that can be shared with the writing consultant.
Arrive a few minutes before the start of your appointment. If you have not arrived for the session after 10 minutes of its start time, you will be marked as a “no show” and will have to re-book your session at a different date and time or attend a drop-in session.
Please note: If a student is marked as a “no show” on three or more occasions, they will need to email Writing Services at firstname.lastname@example.org in order to discuss booking sessions in the future. To avoid this, please ensure that you cancel your session at least 24 hours in advance if you are unable to attend.
