Dr.  Philip Eppard & Dr. Larry Gilbertson
University Engagement Lead
Monsanto Company

Dr. Philip Eppard is currently the Academic Engagement Lead for Monsanto.  His extended team is responsible for outreach to universities around the world on topics of mutual interest such as Ag. biotechnology and chemistry, and sustainability.  Prior to this role, he worked in Regulatory Affairs where his teams were responsible for global approvals for multiple agricultural biotech plant products and veterinary pharmaceutical products.  He has authored over 25 peer-reviewed research publications.  Dr. Eppard joined Monsanto after receiving his Ph.D. in 1985 from Cornell University and holds masters and undergraduate degrees from the University of Minnesota.  He is a native of southeastern Minnesota where his parents were dairy farmers.  He also was a Peace Corps volunteer during the mid-70s.  He and his wife, Barb, have three children and reside in the St. Louis area.

Dr. Larry Gilbertson joined Monsanto as a post-doc in 1995 and became a regular employee in 1997. He is a molecular biologist and he has spent his entire Monsanto career in Ag Biotech. Most of his projects have focused on enabling vector technology, primarily in plant transformation (finding better ways to make transgenic plants) and in RNAi. He moved to Cambridge in 2014 where he is currently the site lead, in the Enabling Technologies program. He also spends time in prospecting activities, and education related activities. He has been a Monsanto Fellow since 2004.
