My Carleton Experience: Overall it was a great experience. Every professor I had was very passionate about their research and the topics they were teaching. I’ve learnt many biology related things which I passionately relay to all of my friends (whether they like it or not). Labs and field courses were easily the best thing about the biology programs; applying what we’ve learnt in lectures physically was really helpful in understanding the material while also being in a fun and social environment. The labs and courses where you actually got to go outside of the facilities and observe/study the nature around us only reinforced my love for biology. Courses like Entomology and Freshwater invertebrates were very hands-on and has now gotten me to just stop what I’m doing sometimes, drop to my knees and just admire the tinier creatures in nature. Other courses such as Animal Behaviour and Evolution have been very insightful allowing me to grasp and explain to others why animals look, behave and do the things they do. Overall, I had a great experience in Carleton’s Biology Program.

My Goals for the Future: I definitely would like to pursue biology related careers in the future. I am very passionate about the conversation of Earth’s natural ecosystems and the organisms within. Therefore, my future goal is to contribute in protecting the various species we have now from becoming endangered or extinct. Whether it be hands-on work in conservation areas, contributing research which could lead to the protection of species from anthropogenic disturbances, or helping to gathering information on organisms such that we better understand how to preserve and improve their populations. If I could contribute in the protection of at least one species then I can be content with that as a major achievement for me. I do hope that as time goes on, I may pursue a higher degree in the future, and that will definitely be at Carleton.
