The SPRINT (São Paulo Researchers in International Collaboration) call is open to ALL FIELDS and the Deans of FASS, FPA, Science and FED at Carleton, together with OVPRI, have contributed to make this mobility grant possible. We want to encourage our faculty to participate. To collaborate with eligible researchers that have existing São Paolo Research Foundation (FAPESP) research grants from the state of São Paolo, Brazil, please use the following link http://www.bv.fapesp.br/en/ to search for potential research matches of PIs with whom you can develop a joint five-page proposals. Using simple key word searches you will be able to find collaborators, and then reach out to them to start the proposal writing process. These opportunities make possible visits back and forth of the PIs and the graduate students. Visiting professors to São Paolo are encouraged to lecture to deepen their relationship with their collaborator’s students and institution. The mobility grant of $10,000 is for one year for Carleton faculty and students, while FAPESP funds its eligible PIs a further $10,000 for their mobility to Carleton. The results are announced at the end of January 2019.  To see who from Carleton won grants in a previous Sprint-Carleton call, consult this link.

Opportunity

FAPESP has stimulated the internationalization of scientific research with the best Brazilian universities through the prestigious SPRINT program. This program encourages and promotes scientific advancement in all fields of research. It provides funding for the initial phase of international research collaborations with the clear expectation that the next phase will be the submission by the researchers from the State of São Paulo of research proposals in the regular funding lines of FAPESP to continue the research started under SPRINT and to consolidate the international partnership.

The competition opens 31 July, 2018 and closes 29 October, 2018. Proposals must be submitted on the website.  Guidelines and eligibility of exchange activities are spelled out on the website.

Eligibility

All full-time faculty of any professorial rank (Assistant, Associate, Full) will be considered. Applications from Adjunct Research Professors will be considered in exceptional cases. Proposals must aim to be reciprocal with regard to academic qualification of the participants. Submissions require a Research Proposal with a maximum of five (5) pages of scientific content, written jointly by the Principal Investigator of the Host Institution in the State of São Paulo and the Principal Investigator at Carleton University and be submitted in English. One copy of the Research Project shall be sent to FAPESP and another (identical) copy to Carleton University. The Research Proposal must also include the items included in item 6.1 of the agreement.

The following additional documents are required by Carleton University:

  • CV for each participant in the partnership (maximum of 4 pages each);
  • a budget outlining planned expenditures; and
  • a letter of Agreement of the Host Institution in the State of São Paulo to which the PI from São Paulo is affiliated. The same document is required by FAPESP (www.fapesp.br/sprint/call32016). This Letter of Agreement may be delivered after the notification of results of this Call for Proposals and before the grant agreement signature.

Funding Available

A total of four grants will be funded up to $10,000 in Canada with a further $10,000 awarded to the Brazilian partner for 24-month projects.

Carleton University submissions can only be accepted via email to Gabriela Moreno. To be considered valid, application documents must be submitted to both Carleton University and FAPESP by their respective researchers. FAPESP applicants must adhere to the FAPESP guidelines and submit all required documents to FAPESP. Applications submitted to only one of the institutions will be excluded from consideration.

Final results will be announced on the FAPESP website after January 26, 2019. Carleton International will communicate the results to Carleton researchers. All questions from Carleton University researchers regarding this Call for Proposals should be directed to Heloise Emdon, Manager, International Projects.
