Co-op students in an approved Master’s program are required to complete two work terms of four months each, in order to graduate with the co-operative education designation. The two work terms may be taken successively or be separated by one or more study terms. A work term may be undertaken during any of the co-op work term cycles (January, May or September). An optional third work term may be approved under exceptional circumstances and/or when a student has been offered an extension with his/her current employer. Under no circumstances will a student be permitted to do more than three work terms.
Co-operative education options at the master’s level are available in the following programs.
- Master of Public Policy, Sustainable Energy and the Environment
-
Students are eligible to register for a co-op work term after completing at least one academic term of full-time studies in the Master of Arts, Sustainable Energy Engineering and Policy program, and after either passing, or being in the process of completing, at least four of the five half-credit core courses.
- Master of Public Policy and Administration
-
Students are eligible to register for a co-op work term after completing at least one academic term of full-time studies in the Master of Public Policy and Administration program, and after either passing, or being in the process of completing, at least six of the core courses.
This requirement is amended for students who entered the program without having met the entire Economics prerequisite (ECON 1000 or equivalent). These students are eligible to register for a co-op work term after completing at least one academic term of full-time studies in the program, after passing ECON 1000 or its equivalent with a grade of B+ or better, and after either passing, or being in the process of completing, at least five of the core courses.
