So much is happening in and around ICSLAC these days!  First I’d like to offer the best of the future to our graduating students in the very first cohort of the Collaborative MA in Digital Humanities!  I hope to see some of you walk across the stage as I will be at Convocation on Friday morning.

It’s hard to believe but already I’m getting ready for the incoming PhD students for Cultural Mediations in September – believe it or not, the preparation starts early! We have a new Director starting on July 1st- I would like to take this opportunity to officially welcome Ming Tiampo to 201 St. Pat’s. Mitchell Frank will be taking some coveted sabbatical time this year – I’m sure you will all join me in wishing him a relaxing and productive year of research!  You will have a chance to thank Mitchell for his contributions on July 18th – more details will follow but please save the date.

As we head into summer, it’s always wonderful to have a chance to celebrate … ourselves!  This time, the Urban Native Magazine agrees – they have just published an article about Alexandra Nahwegahbow who is finishing her first year in the Cultural Mediations program. Congratulations Alex!  You can read the full article here.

There will soon be a new travel grant open to Graduate Students working in the areas of Migration and Diaspora Studies – I will post more information soon.

And we certainly can’t forget that over the summer our first year students will be writing their first Comprehensive Exam from June 18th-25th.  Do you remember your 1st Comp?  If you send me your thoughts – I’m happy to include them in my next post! Keep them in mind as they prepare and write.  We also have a number of students preparing for their second Comprehensive Exams and others in the home stretch of their thesis with an eye to fall Convocation.  It may be summer but that doesn’t mean we take a break in St. Pat’s!

I’ll be here most of the summer so drop in to say hello if you are on campus. Otherwise, have a wonderful summer and I will look forward to our annual Meet & Greet in the fall.
