Both faculty and students are already off to a running start!

  • The annual Dissertation Proposal Workshop will be held on Friday, January 15, 2015 from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm.  Lunch will be served and the workshop will be followed by a reception. At the workshop, the third- and fourth-year Cultural Mediations students will present preliminary articulations of their dissertation topics. After each presentation, there will be time for feedback and discussion with the aim of helping the students to refine and develop their topics into fuller dissertation proposals. A detailed program of the event will be circulated in advance.
  • Wahsontiio Cross, 2nd year PhD in Cultural Mediations is Curator of Continuum: Abstraction in Contemporary Indigenous Art which opens at the Carleton University Art Gallery on Monday, January 18 and will run until April 19, 2016. Please help us to celebrate at the opening reception on Monday, January 18 from 5-7:30 pm. Artists highlighted include Lance Belanger, Robert House, Alex Janvier, Rita Letendre, and Helen Wassegijig.
  • Brian Foss, Director of the School for Studies in Art & Culture & faculty member with ICSLAC is the Curator of: 1920s Modernism in Montreal: The Beaver Hall Group which opened on October 24th, 2015 at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts where it will run until January 31, 2016. The exhibition will then travel to the Art Gallery of Hamilton, the Art Gallery of Windsor, and the Glenbow Museum (Calgary).   • FASS also recently published an article on Ruth Phillips’ recent coveted American Anthropological Association Lifetime Achievement Award – Council for Museum Anthropology (CMA)’s 2015 Lifetime Achievement/Distinguished Service Award. See here for the full article.
