Working Alone/Isolated during COVID-19 Pandemic
Working alone refers to activities where a worker is not directly supervised and that in the event of injury, illness or emergency, immediate assistance is not readily available. In the current situation across campus, the area/building you may be working could be mostly unoccupied and therefore raises the same safety issues. If you are coming onto campus and are working alone,
• notify your supervisor,
• arrange for access,
• and contact Campus Safety Services once on campus to inform them of your location and estimated time of departure.
Assessing the risks associated with a task to be performed is a critical step in determining whether a worker can work alone safely. If you are undertaking medium/high risk activities, please refer to Carleton’s Working Alone Guidelines.
