Fire Safety Training

Our fire safety training provides an overview of fire protection equipment, fire extinguishers, fire safety in residence, and fire safety across the university. Descriptions of each of the modules included in the training are provided below.

Carleton University – Fire Safety

This training provides an overview of fire safety on campus by outlining key components of Carleton University’s Fire Safety Program, including:

• Equipment inspections and the Fire Safety Plan
• Evacuation and staying-in-place procedures in the event of an emergency
• “Safe Destination” sites and helping persons requiring assistance
• Fire safety features of buildings on campus

Carleton University – Residence Fire Safety

This training provides an overview of residence fire safety, including:

• Fire safety brochures for students in residence
• An educational video about fires in university residences
• Important fire safety tips for living in residence

Carleton University – Fire Extinguisher Training

This training provides an overview of the proper use of fire extinguishers in the event of a fire on campus, including:

• Classifications of fires and fire extinguishers
• Operating a fire extinguisher with the PASS method
• Important steps to take to stay safe in the event of a fire

Carleton University – Fire Protection Equipment

This training provides an overview of fire protection equipment on campus, including:

• Classifications of fires and fire extinguishers
• Operating a fire extinguisher with the PASS method
• Fire safety features of buildings on campus

Mandatory for supervisory staff.

Self-enrolment can be completed through Brightspace.

Instructions

1. Login to Brightspace with your MyCarletonOne credentials.
2. Navigate to the top toolbar and select the “Discover” link.
3. Search for “Fire Safety Training” in the “Search” bar located along the top, if the course is not visible on the Discover page.
4. Select the course for “Fire Safety Training”.
5. Once you are on the course page, select “Enroll in Course”.
