Interim Dean – Dr. Fred Afagh
Professor Fred Afagh joined Carleton University in 1987 as a member of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) and has been involved in teaching and research at Carleton for nearly 30 years. In November 2016, he was appointed as Interim Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Design.
Dr. Afagh has served in numerous capacities during his time at Carleton, including roles as Associate Chair for Graduate Studies in the Department of MAE, Director of the Ottawa-Carleton Institute for Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, and Associate Dean, Research and Graduate Studies in the Faculty of Engineering and Design.
His professional and academic career spans close to 40 years of service as a consultant to industry and as a teacher and researcher in academia within Canada, the United States, Europe and the Middle East. His main research interests include the stability of non-conservative systems, structural dynamics and control, and structural mechanics.
