EDI Demographic Data Collection: Myths, Challenges, & Strategies

Talk description: The collection and use of EDI demographic data is a newer concept and practice to the Canadian academic and post-secondary environment. While the collection of this data as requirements for labour mandates have been in effect, the analysis and use of the information have, at times, done more harm than good, especially to equity-denied groups. In this talk, Dr. Kaniki defines what EDI demographic data is, how it can/should be collected and analyzed, and what administrators can do with this information to support EDI at the institution more broadly. Dr Kaniki also covers better practices and strategic use of EDI demographic data for administration and research purposes that are specific to the context of Canada.
