Research Interests
The modern Balkans, with a particular emphasis on nationalism; fascism and political violence; and, democratization, transition and minority issues.

Current Research Projects
I am presently completing a history of Croatian fascism from 1929 to 1945.

Current Teaching
The Balkans, a seminar that focuses on the post-Communist transition in Southeastern Europe.

Selected Publications
My second book, “The Balkans: Revolution, War and Political Violence since 1878,” was published by Oxford University Press in the spring of 2011.  In addition to two scholarly monographs, I have published more than a dozen articles in peer-reviewed academic journals and multi-authored books, dealing with the twentieth century Balkans and the former Yugoslavia.
