Carleton Sprosh Fall Orientation Programming Schedule (2024)

We are looking forward to hosting Ravens for an exciting week of programming. Sprosh Programming is for incoming students from the Sprott School of Business. Participants will be invited to events that are specially designed for business students while also participating in Central Orientation events that are open to ALL Fall Orientation participants. The schedule below is for reference as it is from 2024. Our 2025 schedule will be posted this summer.

Sunday, September 1

Off Campus Student Orientation 
5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Description: Break the ice by meeting other off-campus students and learn about all the resources and support services available to you! Location: Kailash Mital Theater (Southam Hall)

Dinner 
5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Description: Grab a seat and enjoy some dinner while interacting with your new friends. Students living off-campus will eat in the Nideyinàn Food Court and students living in Residence will eat in the Teraanga Commons Dining Hall. Location: Nideyinàn & Teraanga Commons Dining Hall

Bubbles, Beakers, Briefcases (shared programming with SciFrosh) 
6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Description: Calling all Sprott and Science students: Kick off the week playing Bubble Soccer, Archery Tag, and some bocce ball! Compete against each other to see which faculty has the best frosh team. Location: Fieldhouse (Athletics)

Glow Dance Party 
8:30 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.
Description: Light it up! Hit the dance floor to some of the top songs of summer along with your favourite throwback jams. This event is in each program’s schedule, making it the perfect opportunity to meet fellow Ravens of all programs and faculties! *Please note no bags will be permitted Location: Ravens Nest (Athletics)

Monday, September 2

Opening Ceremonies 
10:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
Description: Wake UP! This is your official welcome to Carleton University and the perfect kick-start to the week ahead! Here you will get a chance to meet your Orientation Coordinators once again, while hearing from a few special guest speakers. The event will wrap up with all students heading out to their student success presentations. Location: Ravens Nest (Athletics)

Student Success Presentations 
10:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Description: Join your group in various classrooms around campus to learn tips from your student leaders on how to succeed in your first year of university! Location: Carleton Campus (various classrooms)

SPROTT Case Competition 
11:00 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.
Description: A friendly case competition where you get to put your wits to work. This is a classic Sprosh event that will give you a sneak peek into the business world! Location: Nicol Building Classrooms (Second floor)

Lunch 
12:45 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Description: Grab a seat and enjoy some lunch while interacting with your new friends. Fall Orientation volunteers will bring groups to either the Nideyinàn Food Court or the Teraanga Commons Dining Hall. Location: Nideyinàn Food Court (off-campus students) and Teraanga Commons Dining Hall (on-campus students)

CUFest 
1:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Description: Who will reign supreme? Get ready for an action packed day of friendly competition and larger than life interactive activities! Compete in a variety of outdoor games and activities. Join us on campus at River Field l and bring your ‘A’ game for this one! Location: River Field (outdoors) Recommended items to bring: A water bottle, sunscreen

Dinner 
4:30 p.m. – 6:15 p.m.
Description: Grab a seat and enjoy some dinner while interacting with your new friends. Students living off-campus will eat in the Nideyinàn Food Court and students living in Residence will eat in the Teraanga Commons Dining Hall. Rick Cole – Hypnotist 
6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Description: Join Rick Cole as he brings his hypnotist show to Carleton. You’ll be amazed at how much he knows, what he can have willing participants say or do, and what he can make suddenly appear. Fall under Rick’s spell as he hypnotizes your classmates and maybe even you too! Location: Ravens Nest (Athletics)

Description: Held in conjunction with CU at Night and hosted by our good friends at CUSA! Get ready to dance the night away at their Silent Disco Dance Party! With three DJs spinning on three different channels, you can switch between your favorite genres: pop, hip-hop, afrobeat, and all the trendy hits. Grab a pair of wireless headphones and immerse yourself in the music that moves you. This unique event is the perfect way to unwind, meet new friends, and make unforgettable memories. Location: Ollies (First floor of Nideyinàn)

Tuesday, September 3

Academic Orientation Day 
7:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Description: There’s a lot to do this week. Between finding out where your classes are, meeting your Fall Orientation group and learning all about university life, things can get a little crazy! Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Academic Orientation Day is designed to make sure that you know everything about your Faculty and Department here at Carleton. You’ll receive a faculty specific t-shirt, get to meet your classmates and professors, and find out more about your degree. This is a fun day packed full of information to help you to start your program off on the right foot! More information about Academic Orientation Day is available on its dedicated website. Location: Carleton Campus (various locations)

Expo Carleton 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Description: Want to get involved in the Carleton community but don’t know where to start? Want to know what the Carleton campus has to offer you? This is the event for you! Expo Carleton showcases all the Carleton clubs, societies and services and gives you the opportunity to walk around for the ones that fit your taste buds. Getting involved during your first year can make the transition to university life much smoother. Location: Fieldhouse (Athletics) *Please note that Expo Carleton runs from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m; students are encouraged to attend once they have completed Academic Orientation Day programming and lunch.

Quiz Quest 
7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Description: Come join your fellow Sprotties for a fun trivia-style Jeopardy event! Test your brain, win prizes, and enjoy some friendly competition. Location: Nicol Building Foyer (First Floor)

Game Night with MSA 
7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Description: MSA Game Night, organized by the Muslim Students Association (MSA), brings together Muslim students and friends for an evening of Trivia, “Guess the Flag,” and Jeopardy. It’s an excellent opportunity to connect with like-minded peers, make new friends, and enjoy an evening of games and fun! Location: Porter Hall (Nideyinàn 231)

Movie Under the Stars 
9:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.
Description: Join us for a throwback flick, popcorn and candy outdoors under the stars. Bring a comfortable blanket so you can sit down and enjoy the show. Featured film: 10 Things I Hate About You. Location: Alumni Park (Weather permitting, back up location to be shared in the event of rain)

Wednesday, September 4

Academic Classes All day Have a great first day of classes!

Playback Paradise 
6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. (buses depart at 6:15 p.m.)
Description: Sprosh students will head to Playback for escape rooms, archery tag, and much more! Bus transportation will be provided. This event is open only to students registered for Sprosh. Food and beverage will be provided. Locations: Playback (off campus – 1860 Bank street; buses depart from Teraanga Commons at 6:15 p.m.)

Athletics Night! 
6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
Description: Check out our sports facilities and play few games while you’re at it! We will have an assortment of options taking place throughout the night. Description: A fun way to meet and interact with other new students. Our friends at RRRA will be hosting a Speed Mingling event with built-in icebreakers to help you get to know your fellow Ravens. Location: Russell Triple Lounge (Residence)

7:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. Description:
Fall Orientation has partnered with several local establishments across Ottawa; this is your opportunity to discover the city while visiting some local Ottawa institutions. Participants are encouraged to use their U-Pass to visit various locations across the city; at each location Fall Orientation Leaders will be able to give you a voucher to redeem a treat.

Description: Join the Sprott Business Students’ Society (SBSS) for an engaging two-hour event designed to familiarize new students with the SBSS and its activities. Participants will navigate Carleton University’s campus, complete a series of interactive challenges while meeting SBSS members. Join us for an opportunity to learn more about our society and connect with fellow students in a fun and competitive way. Location: Nicol Building 3060

Friday, September 6

Description: Participate in Shinerama by spreading awareness & fundraising in support of Cystic Fibrosis Canada! An annual fundraiser that is near and dear to Ravens; drop by Teraanga Commons Lobby to purchase some retro Ravens gear or make a donation. Location: Fenn Lounge (Teraanga Commons)

CU at the Closeout Concert! 
8:00 p.m. (doors at 7:00 p.m.)
Fall Orientation is proud to host Rêve for our Close Out Concert. This concert is exclusive to Fall Orientation and Upper Year Event Package participants, attendees will need to show your wristband to get in. Must wear your orientation bracelet, no bags, no food or beverages. NO TICKETS AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE. Location: Ravens Nest
