Spring/Summer Safety Tip
In 2014 the Department of University Safety investigated 29 reports of stolen bicycles from Carleton University campus. All of the reports included cable or chain locks being cut by thieves.
The Department of University Safety encourages all cyclists to follow some quick and easy steps to protect your bicycles this summer:
1) Consider investing in a “U-Lock”. U-Locks are arguably the most secure way to lock your bicycle. U-Locks are also difficult to cut or break unlike cable or chain locks which can be cut with basic bolt cutters or even small tools.
2) Always secure your bicycle to a proper bicycle rack in a high traffic area.
3) Remove all accessories including seats, bags and lights. Accessories can also be targets for thieves.
4) Remove the front wheel and secure it with the back wheel and bicycle frame to the bicycle rack.
