As a content warning, please note that this webpage includes information about gender-based violence and sexual violence. We understand that this can trigger strong reactions and we encourage the community to connect with Carleton University’s Sexual Assault Support Centre and/or Health and Counselling Services for support. The university has support for survivors of sexual violence through Equity and Inclusive Communities (EIC). You can access free and confidential support via web or text message with the new Carleton University Sexual Assault Support Chat Service. The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is a global initiative observed annually, beginning on November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and concluding on December 10, Human Rights Day. Since its inception in 1991 by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership, this campaign has united communities worldwide in their commitment to ending gender-based violence and advocating for systemic change.
At FIST we are always thinking about the ways in which violence impacts the lives of our communities and beyond. Today, like every other day we will continue to teach our students about gender-based violence in Canada and beyond and the intersectional realities that put the most marginalized communities at risk. As always, we encourage our community to participate in events, engage in critical conversations, and amplify resources that support survivors and address systemic inequities.
