Experiential Learning in Action: Watershed Hydrology Students Dive into Fieldwork

October 1, 2025

Time to read: 2 minutes

This September, students in the Watershed Hydrology course took their learning beyond the classroom and into the field—literally. Along the banks of the Rideau River, they engaged in hands-on training in essential hydrological field methods. From measuring stream flow to conducting infiltration studies, students applied theoretical knowledge in real-world settings, gaining practical skills and deeper insights into watershed dynamics.

This immersive experience not only reinforced classroom concepts but also highlighted the value of experiential learning in physical geography and environmental science education. By working directly in natural environments, students developed a stronger understanding of hydrological processes and the tools used to study them—preparing them for future research and careers in water resource management.
