I am a PhD Geography student studying remote sensing of peatland wildfire, with a focus on using UAVs and satellite imagery to assess peatland wildfire vulnerability and seasonal dynamics. I conduct research at peatlands across Alberta, Ontario, and Nova Scotia, including flying UAVs with multispectral sensors and LiDAR sensors. I am particularly interested in peatland conservation under the increasing stress of an intensifying wildfire regime. I am on leave from the Canadian Forest Service, where I work as a wildfire analyst, studying wildfire ecology, wildfire growth, landscape restoration, and forest phenology, among other topics.
I worked as a geoscientist before studying Forest Biology and Management at the University of Freiburg, Germany, and the University of Alberta, Canada. I specialize in R and GIS modelling and analysis, and I have worked as a wildfire growth modeler in support of Canada’s regional wildfire agencies. I am learning French and German, and I like to spend my free time coaxing or carrying my small children up hiking trails in Canada’s Parks.
