Support for Carleton Community Members Affected by Current Events in Iran
Together with the entire Carleton Community, the International Student Services Office (ISSO) is offering our support to students who may be affected by current events in Iran.
Whether you are living in Ottawa or abroad, significant events happening at home can be overwhelming and distressing. You may feel as though you need additional support in the coming days. Please know that the staff in the International Student Services Office (ISSO) and across Carleton University are here to support you and connect you with resources you may need at this time.
Support for Students in Canada
- All students currently in Canada who require counselling support can contact Counselling Services to make an appointment with a member of their counselling team.
- Undergraduate Students can also take advantage of Empower Me for free, confidential, 24/7 counselling support with qualified counselors in the community at 1-833-628-5589 (toll free), and the additional resources outlined below.
- The Student Emergency Fund provides emergency financial assistance to Carleton University students who are experiencing an unforeseeable financial crisis that may impact the physiological or safety needs of a student. The fund provides monetary relief to address basic and immediate needs.
Support for All Students (Inside and Outside of Canada)
All students can access the following resources for additional support:
- International SOS provides medical, safety and security advice, and referrals and emotional support when living abroad. As a Carleton student, you have free 24/7 access to professional medical, travel and personal assistance through the Assistance App, a powerful tool that provides key medical and travel information and one-click dialing to the nearest Assistance Centre.
- International SOS’ Emotional Support program offers 24/7 access to mental health professionals in more than 60 languages through their dedicated line +1 215-942-8478. You can call this number collect (the person being telephoned receives the charges) to access services.
- Undergraduate students can contact Empower Me for free, confidential, 24/7 counselling support with qualified counselors. To set up an appointment from outside Canada, please email demandeaide@optimasanteglobale.com to organize a call.
- The Mental Health and Wellness website lists a number of resources and services that you can access virtually.

Please be advised that Carleton University offices are open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET, Monday to Friday. If your telephone call is not answered, please leave a message with a call-back number that includes your country code. There is currently a 6-hour time difference between Ottawa and South Africa Standard Time. You will incur any international telephone fees for calls made and we encourage students to consult their telephone provider with any questions.
