Student Testimonials
-
“Campus life offered a variety of ways to get involved. There were regular guest presentations from CEOs and entrepreneurs, and several active clubs — the most well-promoted being the debate club, entrepreneurship club, and the buddies club (designed for exchange and international students). The buddies club organized fun events like potluck picnics, free walking tours of the city, and social mixers to connect with other students.” – Winter 2025, Bachelor of Commerce

“If you have specific courses you need for credit transfer, spend extra time comparing course content at your host university before you arrive. At CUNEF, you can try any courses during the first two weeks, so take advantage of that.” – Winter 2025, Bachelor of Commerce

“I lived in a student residence managed by CityLife Madrid. Living in residence was great for meeting new friends — in fact, that’s how I met my closest ones. But as an older student, it felt a little like being back in first year. I used the student housing guide provided for those studying in Spain, and CityLife Madrid was amazing to work with. They were super responsive and not only helped me find accommodation but also connected me to multiple WhatsApp groups based on interests like sports, parties, language exchange, and meeting new people.” – Winter 2025, Bachelor of Commerce

“I chose not to open a Spanish bank account because most Canadian banks work fine internationally within the EU, and I wasn’t staying for more than six months. I’d recommend just letting your home bank know you’ll be abroad and relying mostly on cash. For my phone, I used an eSIM from Lebara (much cheaper than an international plan from a Canadian provider).” – Winter 2025, Bachelor of Commerce

“First, if you plan on backpacking — do not overpack. Take advantage of your weekends and travel whenever you can — don’t save it all for the end of your exchange because time will run out. If you can, plan to stay an extra month (or more) after your exchange just to travel. This was truly one of the best experiences of my life — I learned so much about myself, made lifelong friends, and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.” – Winter 2025, Bachelor of Commerce
