On April 1st at 3pm in the History Dept Lounge (4th floor Paterson Hall), Dr. Kenneth Dewar, professor in the Department of History at Mount Saint Vincent University, will launch his new book Frank Underhill and the Politics of Ideas (McGill-Queens UP).
As our own Brian McKillop writes, “Frank Underhill was one of the best-known and most influential academic figures of his time. Dewar draws on Underhill’s life, thought, and career to reveal what he calls ‘a window on the intellectual landscape of twentieth-century Canada.’ He succeeds admirably.”
Underhill was a Canadian journalist, essayist, historian, social critic, and political thinker; he came to Ottawa in 1955 as the curator of Laurier House and later joined our faculty at Carleton. He died in 1971.
Dr. Blair Neatby, professor emeritus in the Department of History at Carleton and a former student of Frank Underhill’s, will say a few words and then Dr. Dewar will speak about his book. All are welcome. Refreshments will follow!
