The History Department is pleased to welcome Professor Alicia Mayer of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México in August 2015. Professor Mayer is a distinguished scholar whose work has garnered many awards. Her publications on the history of ideas in Mexico are numerous; her particular niche is a comparative approach to intellectual history such as bringing together the thoughts of Cotton Mather and Francisco de Sigüenza y Góngora. While at Carleton, she will be finishing her book on the reception of the ideas of Bartolomé de las Casa in New France. At present, she is the director of the Center for Mexican Studies in Madrid, Spain.
