Student Testimonials
- Campus Life
-
“I would say that the services were the same as they were at Carleton. You are mostly in contact with the international office at Vienna. They have their own groups. The really big one in Vienna is ERASMUS. They have events for the week and if you have a card with them you get discounts at events. If you stick with them you will have a good time. They even do trips to Prague and other places as well.” – Full Year 2023/2024, Bachelor of International Business
“There were many events organized by the ERASMUS University of Vienna program such as karaoke nights, trips, Halloween parties, Christmas markets, and more. I was also assigned a buddy by ERASMUS/UNIWIEN which was extremely helpful to adapting to the new culture.” – Fall 2023, Bachelor of Commerce
- Academic Environment
-
“I think that if you are a good student and you go to your classes and study, you will do fine. I think the big difference between Carleton and Vienna is that their testing is more short answer based instead of multiple choice meaning.” – Full Year 2023/2024, Bachelor of International Business
“The adjustment was positive. It was interesting to face a different grading scheme. The teaching style was similar, but the workload was quite different in the sense of less assignments and more exams. ” – Fall 2023, Bachelor of Commerce
- Housing Experience
-
“I lived in a student living apartment, I very much enjoyed my stay there. I went with Wihast. It was quite a good place for the price and the place relative to the city as well as the university was quite nice. Little tram ride.” – Full Year 2023/2024, Bachelor of International Business
“I lived in a private apartment as there is no housing provided by the University directly. I am happy with my decision, but I do not think there is a wrong choice as my friends were in the student housing and it was also a positive experience.” – Fall 2023, Bachelor of Commerce
- Setting Up Phone and Bank Account
-
“Bank account was quite easy, you just need basic information. Cell phone is also quite easy and cheap too. You can get a data plan from the supermarket called Hofer and the plan is called HOT. You get around 40 GB of data for 9.90 Euro.” – Full Year 2023/2024, Bachelor of International Business
“I did not set up a bank account, I was rather using cash, home credit card, and a travel credit card. Activating your cell phone is quite simple here and there is a place (EDUCOM) that provides great prices for students to get sim cards where you can pay monthly (no contract).” – Fall 2023, Bachelor of Commerce
- Travel Tips
-
“I would say if you are in Germany, use the Deutschbahn pass and travel all over Germany using the regional trains. Cheap and gets you to were you need to go. In terms of getting other places. I really liked Flixbus. It does the trick for me.” – Full Year 2023/2024, Bachelor of International Business
“Purchasing the Winen Linen transport student pass is essential as it gives you access to all their public transportation (bus, metro, tram) for your time here. For visiting other close by countries, FlixBus seems to have the best prices and is super convenient. Ryanair has cheap prices for countries such as London and Copenhagen (super worth seeing). All of the typical tourist spots in Vienna are worth seeing, there is a night in October called “the nigh in the museum” where you get access to all of the museums in the city for one ticket.” – Fall 2023, Bachelor of Commerce
