Student Testimonials
- Campus Life
-
“There was lots of support such as the Global Mobility Team, academic support and wellness support from our own personal tutors. At Portsmouth Uni tutors are people who help you one on one understand the content or assignments and offer support for all circumstances. There were many opportunities to get involved by there being an international orientation week, a freshers week and a freshers fair that had stands and booths of all the clubs and sports teams you could join.” – Fall 2023, Bachelor of Global and International Studies
- Academic Environment
-
“The course selection was easy at Portsmouth as they had a lot of courses that catered to my degree.” – Fall 2023, Bachelor of Global and International Studies
- Housing Experience
-
“The accommodation was provided from the university at Harry Law Hall. The location was excellent because it was right in the heart of Portsmouth and it was right beside the train station for easy access. The university was an 8-minute walk and there were many grocery stores, a mall, pubs and coffee shops around. Everything was in walking distance in this city, I never used the bus. Even though they provided a free University bus for the students.” – Fall 2023, Bachelor of Global and International Studies
- Setting Up Phone and Bank Account
-
“I did not set up a bank account. I took out pounds and euros before arriving. I also set up a western union account as I could deposit or get money that way. I also just used a credit card the entire time that was Canadian. I did not set up a phone plan, I bought an e-sim using the ‘Airolo’ app as I could buy a Eurosim that was able to be used all over Europe for 10$ a month. This was a better option for me simply because I traveled a lot within Europe.” – Fall 2023, Bachelor of Global and International Studies
- Travel Tips
-
“I was able to go to Ireland, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Netherlands, Germany, Greece and France for flights under 200$ Canadian roundtrip. If you are in Europe take advantage of the easy access to transportation and cheap flights. Also try to make friends with other international students. They are all in the same boat as you and it can be very comforting to know that your not alone in a new and far country. It was truly a great experience being able to see so much of the world and meeting so many diverse people, especially in Portsmouth (it is ALL international students basically).” – Fall 2023, Bachelor of Global and International Studies
