International Internships

An international internship is an opportunity to work internationally for academic credit. Internships are an excellent way to gain real-world work experience, develop contacts in your field and build your resume to market yourself for future career opportunities.

Internship details are as follows:

Virtual internships are available in the fall, winter, and summer terms
In-person internships are available in the summer term
Internships start at six weeks in length and can be customized to fit your course schedule
Positions are unpaid
Students are required to enroll in the academic course as part of their internship.
- For BGInS students:
  
  o GINS 3910 (0.5 credit/minimum 150 work hours, maximum 349 work hours)
  
  o GINS 3911 (1 credit/minimum 350 work hours)
- For non-BGInS students (students in all other undergraduate programs):
  
  o GINS 3930 (0.5 credit/minimum 150 work hours, maximum 349 work hours)
  
  o GINS 3931 (1.0 credit/minimum 350 work hours)
Winter 2026 virtual applications are open (closing December 19)
Summer 2026 virtual and in-person applications are open (closing December 19)

Eligibility

Note: This program is open to all undergraduate programs except for Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

In order to be eligible for the virtual program, students must:

have a minimum 6.5 CGPA at the time of applying (must be maintained throughout the internship)
be in undergrad and have 2nd year standing by the time they start their internship
be registered in an undergraduate degree program at Carleton

In order to be eligible for the in-person program, students must:

have a minimum 7.0 CGPA at the time of applying (must be maintained throughout the internship)
be in undergrad and have 3rd year standing by the time they start their internship
be registered in an undergraduate degree program at Carleton

Application

Applications are currently open for Winter 2026, Summer 2026 virtual and in-person internships.

Funding

Students may be eligible for bursaries to offset costs.
