International Internships

An international internship is an opportunity to work internationally for academic credit. Internships are an excellent way to gain real-world work experience, develop contacts in your field and build your resume to market yourself for future career opportunities.

Internship details are as follows:

  • Virtual internships are available in the fall, winter, and summer terms
  • In-person internships are available in the summer term
  • Internships start at six weeks in length and can be customized to fit your course schedule
  • Positions are unpaid
  • Students are required to enroll in the academic course as part of their internship.
    • For BGInS students:
      o GINS 3900 (0.5 credit/minimum 150 work hours, maximum 349 work hours)
      o GINS 3901 (1 credit/minimum 350 work hours)
    • For non-BGInS students (students in all other undergraduate programs):
      o GINS 3930 (0.5 credit/minimum 150 work hours, maximum 349 work hours)
      o GINS 3931 (1.0 credit/minimum 350 work hours)
  • Winter 2025 virtual applications are closed
  • Summer 2025 virtual and in-person applications are open until March 17th.

Eligibility

Note: This program is open to all undergraduate programs except for Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

In order to be eligible for the virtual program, students must:

  • have a minimum 6.5 CGPA at the time of applying (must be maintained throughout the internship)
  • be in undergrad and have 2nd year standing by the time they start their internship
  • be registered in an undergraduate degree program at Carleton

In order to be eligible for the in-person program, students must:

  • have a minimum 7.0 CGPA at the time of applying (must be maintained throughout the internship)
  • be in undergrad and have 3rd year standing by the time they start their internship
  • be registered in an undergraduate degree program at Carleton

Application

Applications are currently closed for winter 2025 virtual internships, and open for summer 2025 virtual and in-person internships until March 17th.

Funding

Students may be eligible for bursaries to offset costs.
