Student Testimonials
- Campus Life
-
“There were lots of clubs and activities happening both on campus and in the ECU Village where many international/exchange students live. Some events I attended were a carnival, pantheon party, and monthly karaoke nights.” – Winter 2023, Bachelor of Global and International Studies
“The university campus held multiple events including a Japanese festival, sports festival, free food nights, and frequent movie nights in their own cinema. Clubs and volunteer activities were also available.”– Winter 2023, Bachelor of Cognitive Sciences
- Academic Environment
-
“While I found interesting courses that fit into my schedule, it takes time to look at the courses and get them approved for credit, so I’d highly recommend planning your courses as early as possible. I’d also recommend saving your electives for exchange.” – Winter 2023, Bachelor of Global and International Studies
“The academic setting was very similar to Carleton’s with the exception that grades are separated into 4 categories (fail, credit, distinction, high distinction).” – Winter 2023, Bachelor of Cognitive Sciences
- Housing Experience
-
“I lived in an on-campus apartment with other students. I’m very happy with this decision as it was a great way to meet other students and a quick walk to my classes.” – Winter 2023, Bachelor of Global and International Studies
“I lived in the 6 bedroom apartments. This was the best decision I made on this exchange because it allowed me to meet all of the friends I made. The 6 bedroom apartments are all located next to each other which allows everyone to meet everyone. You share the house with 5 other people and the apartments are mixed. I recommend applying for the housing early because the apartments are popular and they sell out fast.” – Winter 2023, Bachelor of Cognitive Sciences
- Setting Up Phone and Bank Account
-
“For my phone, I walked into a Telstra and set up a pre-paid plan on the spot. For a bank account, I made an appointment at a local bank (Westpac, I’d recommend them) to set up
an account. Both processes were very smooth and easy.” – Winter 2023, Bachelor of Global and International Studies
“I did not make an Australian bank account. I activated my new sim card at the airport at the international students booth right next to the airport exit. There they give you all the information you need to get started including a free welcome package with gift cards and a SIM (you still must activate it at another booth).” – Winter 2023, Bachelor of Cognitive Sciences
- Travel Tips
-
“I’d highly recommend visiting Sydney and Cairns if you can. Closer to Perth, taking a day trip to Rottnest Island is an absolute must. Going there was 100% my favourite thing I did in Perth. It’s super easy to take a bus to the boat harbour and then catch a ferry to the island – just book your tickets ahead of time.” – Winter 2023, Bachelor of Global and International Studies
“Near Perth there is Rottnest island that has beautiful beaches and amazing local wildlife. This is a must-see attraction of Perth since it is one of the only places where you will see Quokkas. Furthermore, Esperance is an amazing location south of Perth that has the famous lucky beach and dwarf kangaroos that are friendly to humans. North of Perth there is Broome that has many attractions such as camel riding, whale watching cruises that allows you to swim with whale sharks, and cable beach. Also, since Australia is very close to Asia you can visit Bali in Indonesia for an out of this world experience that includes rainforests, monkeys, amazing food, and amazing accommodation at a very very low cost (this is the most popular travel location for Australians).” – Winter 2023, Bachelor of Cognitive Sciences
