Student Testimonials
- Academic Environment
-
“The adjustment to academic life in the SELF program was very easy because it was similar to Carleton. Since the program was so small, almost all of our classes were in the same 3 or 4 classrooms at the university for the whole year. The classes were all taught in a similar manner to Carleton, including the teaching style, the content and the grading.” – Full Year 2021/2022, Bachelor of International Business
- Housing Experience
-
“I lived in a type of student residence. There are no on-campus options for housing at Jean Moulin 3 but I received an email with off-campus residences. The best areas to live in Lyon are Bellecour, Hotel de Ville, Croix Rousse or somewhere within a 20-minute walk of the university (Saxe Gambetta, Garibaldi, Sans Souci).” – Full Year 2021/2022, Bachelor of International Business
- Setting Up Phone and Bank Account
-
“I did not set up a bank account abroad. I purchased a sim card from Free Mobile, it was very cheap and worked almost everywhere I went.” – Full Year 2021/2022, Bachelor of International Business
- Travel Tips
-
“If in Lyon, it is highly recommended to go hiking and paragliding in Chamonix in the fall. It is absolutely stunning! Also travelling to the South of France in the early fall when the weather is still warm is a must! I went to La Ciotat and the Calanques which was amazing. I also recommend visiting Paris (of course!). Outside of France, I was fortunate to have travelled most of western Europe during my year abroad and all of the countries were amazing. Amsterdam was a really fun city with lots to do with friends! Morocco was amazing and is only a short flight from Lyon, so I definitely recommend that as well. Lyon was super handy because of the close proximity to a relatively big airport and a reliable train system.” – Full Year 2021/2022, Bachelor of International Business
