Admission to the collaborative master’s program in Latin American and Caribbean Studies is available to master’s students who are admitted in one of the participating master’s programs (see below for program list). To apply to one of the participating master’s programs, please visit the Graduate Admissions website.
Admission to the collaborative master’s program in Latin American and Caribbean Studies is determined by the Latin American and Caribbean Studies (LACS) Committee.
Admission Requirements
The admission criteria are the same for both new and current MA students at Carleton University:
- Honours Bachelor degree or equivalent
- Be admitted to and maintain current registration in one of the participating Master’s programs
- Completion of the LACS Specialization Form.
- Current Students: If you have already started your MA program and would like to pursue the LACS MA specialization, please download the LACS MA Application Form here and submit your completed form to Latin American and Caribbean Studies.
- Incoming Students: If you are currently applying to a MA program affiliated with the LACS specialization you must complete the Latin American and Caribbean studies Specialization Form which is available under the Supplementary Forms section of your online application. - Late Admissions: Please know that late admissions are permissible if there is room in the LACS MA program. Students already accepted into a participating program are welcome to contact Latin American and Caribbean Studies to discuss the possibility of applying and the process of doing so. Required Documents
After you have submitted your online application and your application fee has been processed for your application to the participating master’s program, you will be instructed on how to upload your required documents in Carleton Central. If you are interested in being considered for the collaborative master’s program in Latin American and Caribbean Studies, you must complete the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Specialization Form which is available under Supplementary Forms section of your online application.

- Current MA Students at Carleton University: Applications are accepted throughout the academic year.
- New MA applicants to Carleton University: You must follow the application deadline of the participating master’s program to which you are applying.
How to Apply
Students wishing to apply to the collaborative master’s program in Latin American and Caribbean Studies (except those applying to the MA: International Affairs program, see below) must complete the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Specialization Form as described above and upload it as part of your Required Documents. This form, which requires you to indicate the reasons for your interest in this collaboration, must be uploaded by the application deadline of the participating master’s program.
The application process to graduate studies at Carleton for all prospective students is the same and must be completed online. For complete information regarding the application process please visit the Graduate Admissions website.

Admission Decisions
If you are admitted to the collaborative master’s program in Latin American and Caribbean Studies, you will be notified at the time you receive an offer of admission to the participating master’s program. Students applying to the MA: International Affairs program will be notified at a later date. You can check your application status in Carleton Central.

MA: International Affairs Applicants
For those applying to the MA: International Affairs program at the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs (NPSIA), NPSIA will email admitted students to request that those interested in being part of the collaborative master’s program in Latin American and Caribbean Studies submit an application (a form will be supplied) to Latin American and Caribbean Studies by August 1.
