Zahra is a nonprofit communications professional living in Toronto. Originally from Trinidad and Tobago, Zahra combines a love of storytelling with a passion for global social justice. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music, with a Minor in Anthropology, from McGill University, as well as a Graduate Diploma in Communications Studies from Concordia University, in Montreal.
Currently the Communications Manager at Canadian Feed The Children, Zahra has held roles at the Ontario Council for International Cooperation and the Tyndale St-Georges Community Centre. She has served on various boards, including for local daycares and with the McGill Black Alumni Association, serving as Vice-President of Communications. She’s a member of the Public Engagement Working Group at the Canadian Partnership for Women and Children’s Health.
Her focus is on ethical communications in the international cooperation sector, with specific interests in anti-racist, decolonial and ethical fundraising communications and public engagement. She hopes that through the MPNL program she can contribute to the development of best practices in decolonial and anti-racist communications for the international cooperation sector, building on the work of other researchers in this field, including the authors of the Unfunded report, an MPNL publication.
