Consultation

In December 2021, Carleton University announced the creation of an Indigenous-Specific Hiring Policy in response to Canada-wide concerns about Indigenous identity fraud in post-secondary institutions. A website has been developed that introduces you to the Carleton University co-chairs of this committee and the Indigenous legal experts involved.

The objective is to make the consultation process accountable, accessible and inclusive. We have worked with Indigenous legal experts who have guided us in developing this process and the questions.

How can you get involved?

Engagement and consultation are a critical part of developing an Indigenous-Specific Hiring Policy. This is an opportunity to share your ideas about the Indigenous Hiring Policy at Carleton University.

You are invited to provide your feedback in this secure and private online questionnaire. If further in-person consultation is required, arrangements will be made to meet with you and a support person as requested. All information from this questionnaire and in-person consultations will be kept confidential and the content will inform the development of the Indigenous-Specific Hiring Policy.

You are asked to answer the following questions. The mandatory questions are marked with an asterisk (*). You can share your name or not.

In-person Outreach

Alternative to this online questionnaire, if individuals would like to do a personal consultation to go over this in a private setting please contact [UPDATE REQUIRED].

Next Steps

A report of findings will be prepared and posted on the website. This will include a report on the number of individuals that participated, both digitally and in person, and the steps that were taken to draft an equitable policy. The information from the consultations will be included in the draft policy and distributed to Indigenous staff, faculty and communities to provide feedback, with a deadline of thirty days.

The final Policy will be brought to the Board of Governors for final approval. The implementation of the Policy will be undertaken with an educational component and development of procedures.
