Virtual Ventures employees are changing the future of Canada by helping youth build their scientific thinking and digital literacy skills to help youth move from simply consuming technology to being innovative producers of technology. As a STEM Outreach Instructor for Virtual Ventures, you will be responsible for delivering outreach programs and activities including workshops, events, and after-school sessions. You will deliver workshops using engineering and technology curriculum for children between kindergarten to grade 12. Events and programs are hosted on the Carleton University campus, as well as local schools and community centers.
Ideal Candidate
- Some experience working with children (Example: Previous camp or classroom experience)
- Prior experience in a mentoring/coaching role (Examples: Summer camp counselor, sports coach, lifeguard, arts/educational instructor)
- Passionate about sharing STEM knowledge
- Ability to explain complex concepts in a simplified manor

- Works well in a team and independently
Qualifications
- Carleton University student enrolled in engineering, science and/or technology related programs
- Computer literacy required (basic programming an asset)
- Strong leadership skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Required to undergo a Police Record Check for the Vulnerable Sector before the start of the position
Hours of work
Hours to be worked would be agreed upon between the STEM Outreach Instructor and the Program Director (estimated approximately 5-10 hours/week).
Salary
$18/hour
