Engineers and architects have long gazed at nature for inspiration, from the design of bullet trains to wind turbines. Illias Berberi, in the Dakin lab in the Biology Department, has been studying the evolution of extraordinary flight behaviours by examining body mass, wing size, species relatedness and other characteristics. Illias hopes that studying these behaviours will glean insight into developing technology.
