The Centre for European Studies Jean Monnet Chair “Democracy in the EU” is pleased to host a discussion, “European Defense Policy in an Age of Global Uncertainty: A Perspective from Germany,” featuring Tobias Lindner, MdB.
European defense policy is confronted with new uncertainties. US President Trump has cast doubt on the future of NATO. At the same time, the impacts of “Brexit” on the EU’s Common Security and Defence Policy remain unclear. Do we need a renaissance of the European Defense Community in order to secure a lasting peace?
Tobias Lindner has been a member of the German Bundestag for the Green Party (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen) since 2011. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. In the Bundestag, he is a member of the Defense Committee and serves as Deputy Chairman of the German-Canadian Parliamentary Friendship Group.
This event is co-sponsored by the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence within the Centre for European Studies (CES) at Carleton University, and by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Ottawa. Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence activities are co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union and by Carleton University.
